Yeah, she really nails it. I saw her do a BFI Q&A a few years ago where she talked about Lynch pranking her on the set of Rabbits (the series of short films he made for his website, some of which was later incorporated into Inland Empire). Lynch would shout stage directions at Watts through the megaphone, which Watts (wearing a giant paper mache rabbit-head with no eye-holes) had to rely on in lieu of actual eyesight. 'NAOMI, TURN TO YOUR LEFT AND WALK TOWARDS THE DOOR,' Lynch would shout. Watts would turn left and walk straight into the wall. 'NOT THAT WAY, NAOMI, THE OTHER WAY.' She'd turn right and walk into an ironing board. 'NO NO NO NAOMI. GO BACK TO WHERE YOU WERE BEFORE.' Her rabbit head conked against a floor lamp. 'HEE HEE HEE,' giggled David Lynch.

With the "Twin Peaks" revival nearly upon us, it seems like a good time to mention that while everybody recognizes Lynch's work as surreal, harrowing, occasionally opaque, etc., he's not often given credit for being funny. I think a lot of the success of the original show is due to the fact that (at least in the first season) there's a lot of deadpan humor.
