How the Overlook Film Festival turned itself into a living, breathing horror movie. The part of the Overlook there being played by Timerline Lodge, which was built during the depression by the WPA. Though the movie uses Timberline Lodge for exteriors the interiors are quite different, being filmed on a set inspired by the Ahwahnee Hotel. Other shooting locations include the maze (previously) and a partial replica of the extra of theTimberline which were both built in Hertfordshire, England.

“This piece in particular is about facing stuff about yourself that you might not want to see, and your own personal inner demons, versus any demons that are externalized,”

This is what all good horror movies are about to me. It's one of the reasons why I have trouble watching horror movies in the cinema with modern audiences, who seem to be in it for an entirely different reason.

I think you need to be able to put yourself in a sort of liminal , hyperreal dream-state to truly enjoy a scary movie.

Just past 6:30AM, three people slipped quietly into my hotel room while I slept. I awoke to see them standing above me, a light shining brightly into my face. They stuck a swab in my mouth, collecting DNA for reasons unknown.

This happened to Buzzfeed's Louis Peitzman, except he didn't sign up for that level of the game, did not consent to physical contact and was not informed of the safe word. "I hope you can forgive us for invading your privacy and involving you in that activity meant for the Hunter tier." (scroll to at Sunday, April 30).

That is an astounding fuck-up. Peitzman is being gracious about it (as is his right), but I would shed no tears if he sued the ever-living shit out of them. Safety cannot be something you just apologize for not having properly handled after the fact.

Coming across the Blackout haunted game mentioned while poking around the articles, I then googled walkthroughs people have written up of that interactive haunted house. Wow. The descriptions alone are super disturbing.
