Rarely is the question asked: what would you get when you use the style of the Take on Me music video to adapt a Warhammer 40K story. But luckily Richard Boylan did.

Disappointed that it didn't use "Take On Me" for the soundtrack.

This is surprisingly beautiful animation for a story involving chainsaw swords.

Easily fixed.

It seems strange to me that with all of the various franchises out there being mined for films, animated or live action, that WH40k has pretty much been passed over. There have been some cg movies, but with a ready built universe and more stories and characters than you can shake a stick at, it's bizarre that there isn't more of a solid media franchise out there. Is GW just really this bad at this stuff? I know I'd happily watch this stuff if it was out there.

Also, Blood for the Blood God, etc. etc.

Now imagine this with Gaunt's Ghosts instead of Spess Mehreens. Like, come on, the defense of Hinzerhaus or the invasion scene from Armour of Contempt.

Thanks for this, I've now spent 45 minutes reading about the difference between Legions and Chapters of Space Marines, and the whole wiki article on the Drop Site massacre and the Istvaan III Atrocity. TGIF and thank god for 40k. I'm actually happy its so expensive, if it were cheaper I'd be hooked for sure.

Thanks! And it works surprisingly well.

Is GW just really this bad at this stuff?

GW is completely awful at business, more or less. Or, at least, they are awful at understanding how to better leverage what they've got into different markets or business models, while being pretty good at continuing to bleed the same playerbase dry over time.

These are the people who refused to license Warhammer for the game that was re-branded into WarCraft, which literally launched a company that went on to be worth something like $14B. They've also spent decades resisting expanding their playerbase by accepting more customers with a lower margin, to the point where a ton of hugely profitable miniatures-games-in-a-box basically arose entirely because it was a cheaper way to get cool miniatures than paying GW's prices. They're just now barely kinda coming around on it, but in general you can expect GW to be a decade behind or more and guaranteed to make stupid business decisions if it's too different from their traditional sales model.

You say Take Me On, I say the rotoscoped bits of Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings.

While there is no good ruinous power to find in your underwear, some would be worse than others.

Watch out for that Slaanesh.

BeeDo: It's an arresting thought. I guess Nurgle's worst, Tzeentch pretty bad except possibly in some instances of gender dysphoria, Khorne bad except for cis women, and Slaanesh arguably best but rather distracting. Now what were we discussing again?

I thought this was going to be about the Black and Chrome vesion of Mad Max: Fury Road when I first scanned the headline. But this is good too.

(My collection of White Dwarfs went many years ago - too heavy to lug around sadly.)

It is positively eerie how well Iridic's Take On Me dub works with this animation.
