William Baumol, R.I.P. Best known for Baumol's cost disease, "one of the greatest of living economists" William Jack Baumol died at 95.

There was a comment on MeFi not too long ago about Baumol's cost disease, which prompted a bit of interesting reading for me. RIP.

Economists seem to go on for a long time. North died in (iirc) 2015 at 95, Sen is 83 and still kickin', Coase died in 2013 at 102, Arrow died this year at 95...
(How did I now know Arrow had died? Sadly, even if his death makes me sad, and makes you sad, and makes that other person sad, there's no way to know our collective feelings about it...)

I have been reading some of his most-referenced articles lately. I am surprised that he was still alive, very sad that he is gone.
