"It wasn't like I was fielding lots of calls about podcasts produced inside of prisons," Shapiro said. "I appreciated the creativity of that."
Ear Hustle brings you the stories of life inside prison, shared and produced by those living it.
Thanks for posting this! Looking forward to listening to it.

Related is Alex Kotlowitz's recent series for NPR, Written Inside.

I don't understand why they are promoting it so far in advance of release. The promos were good, but why not release the first episode concurrently?

This sounds really cool but I don't think I'll be able to handle it.
At the same time, thanks for the reminder to write to my friend.

I'm looking forward to this.
I also hope the practice of generating a media blitz announcing your podcast weeks before there's actually any content available isn't a trend that catches on.

Also - as much as I enjoyed the stories from Written Inside - the interviews with the producer and professor at the end really spoiled my ability to remember the series fondly. This one sounds - at least at the outset - much less heavily loaded with the patronizing, educator-savior tone, which is fantastic. Here's hoping that the insiders-as-equal-colleagues thing actually holds up. (And, I suppose, that it doesn't make for terrible audio.)
