Toiletfan1 is a young man who reviews various public toilets and urinals. The occasional sink. The waterfall urinal is particularly lovely.

This is the unusual toilet in the upstairs bathroom of my new house, and how I stumbled upon this. Enjoy!

WAITAMINUTE! He highlighted the "waterfall urinal just off I-15" but NOT the urinal at the Madonna Inn just off highway 101? I mean, it's one of San Luis Obispo's Top 10 tourist attractions (along with Hearst Castle, Bubblegum Alley, the Monarch Butterfly Grove, the salute to Bugs Bunny in Pismo Beach and oneswellfoop).

...and I forgot, the college radio station where Weird Al Yankovic recorded his first hit songs and where MeFi's own filthylightthief was a DJ for several years AFTER the garduated. But I digress.

I think someone should introduce Toiletfan1 and the Dull Men's Club (video).

I would like to note here that the public self cleaning toilets in San Francisco are awful. They are a case study in an over-engineered solution to a problem that fails miserably. Thank you for indulging me. I feel heard.

Is this the right place to share my favorite clever bathroom Instagrammer, whereipee?

I've been looking at upgrading the motorized vent in my bathroom from 50 CFM to something higher. I've found vent fans up to 200 CFM, with variable speed. I guess that makes me a toiletfanfan.

Most useless urinal? Channel 8 in Rochester NY. Their studio started out as an auditorium where they did live radio shows in front of live audiences. They converted the stage to their studio, and converted the mens rooms to edit bays. Loud reverberating tiles, and four floor length urinals. Of course they were disconnected, and had BIG signs saying "Don't pee here." Of course, someone did about once a week, and the janitor had to use a shop-vac to clean it out.

Strangest urinal? A big roadhouse style trough urinal... but this was in a high end bar, and the waterfall backsplash was a mirror.

Worst urinal? In the Buffalo, NY baseball stadium mens room, was a huge circular fountain at the entrance. Little cherubs peed from the center, men lined up all around. I was eight, all I learned was I'd always use a stall, and the worst job in the world must have been the guy that scooped out the coins. Torn down in the early '70s.

My vote in this genre goes to Dan Schaumann's Toilography - I especially enjoyed this example from Jaleo's in Washington, DC.

Somewhere, I've got a picture of myself smiling next to the "Loo of the Year" award plaque in the ladies' room at the Tower of London. I've always been a big fan of high-quality public bathrooms; nothing says "civilization" in quite the same way.

The waterfall urinal is particularly lovely.

And hard to clean and particularly smelly, no doubt.

Thank you for making this comment and including the Weird Al anecdote so I didn't have to ;)

(And being a college radio DJ after graduating wasn't so weird at KCPR, until Cal Poly decided they liked random playlists more than live DJs and booted all non-students, but that's a tangent too far for this thread.)
