Hesitating hands...
Now type out the morae like
singing cicadas!

Count after thunder
to measure the coming storm,
but feel its approach

Counted sounds only
do not a true haiku make —
they are scattered leaves

Number in haiku
is but its unopened bud;
contrast its blossom!

The number of charge
is an atom stripped naked:
its clothes are ions.

Bunched grapes of protons
make sweet wine for electrons
and draw them like flies.

Mendeleev brought
an atomic calendar,
its dates are timeless.

Mists settle to dew
as the lark takes flight to sing:
"Atoms are haiku!"

"Repel and attract:
each atom is knotted by
a woven rainbow!"
