The Getty Museum's video (long) on the manuscripts and costume design exhibitions relating to Games of Thrones and the Middle Ages. Fascinating and humorous, e.g. Ikea rugs as GofT robes.

Hell, prop construction is full of hacks like Ikea rugs for sheepskin robes. I had a set designer once show me how to make a fake "raw chicken cutlet" out of glue from a hot gun and paint (squirt out a big cutlet-shaped puddle, mix a little paint in, let dry). I also found rawhide chew treats that looked a lot like bacon for another show, and yet another devised a smoke-bomb effect by pre-loading a straw with colored powder and glitter and hiding it in a wall, and someone had to stand by on the other side of the wall and blow through it at the right moment.

Sometimes I think that I should have gone into prop construction because I'm always fascinated by the hacks that people have had to come up with due to low budget or "that doesn't exist in the real world".
