Elderly Man Pushes Burglary Suspect Off Roof

“I’d made up my mind. I said, ‘He’s on my roof? Whatever it takes, he’s coming off,’ ” Wilford Burgess told ABC7 after he pushed the man off his house’s roof. Crisis negotiators had been called to the neighborhood, where a man was jumping from rooftop to rooftop, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said.
The suspect was on one roof for about five hours before the elderly resident “got tired” of his antics, climbed onto the roof and pushed the man off, according to Sgt. Joseph Morales.
“The grandpa did what we couldn't,” Capt. Tim Murakami tweeted after the incident.

I'm with traveler. This is a crap story and a crap thing to post. Right wing message boards love these kind of "guy defends his castle and kicks some ass" articles, but I think they're not the best fit for MetaFilter.

ABC7 reported that the suspect was admitted to a hospital for a mental evaluation. It’s unclear whether he was injured in the fall.
I have a few choice words myself for the tone of this article. And for the police who apparently looked the other way as he climbed up on the roof and started a fight with a guy who may have just been having a mental crisis. What would people be saying if the guy landed on his head and died?
