Comptrolling Crime in Chicago

Ever wondered what a comptroller does? Crimefighting, at least if you're Susana Mendoza, comptroller of the State of Illinois, who leapt off her bike to chase down mobbed-up felon Johnny "Quarters" Boyle to prevent him from getting away with a hit-and-run.

"Say Cheese!"

JQB will have to account for himself. He is, again, on the wrong side of he ledger.

Considering all the financial problems Chicago and Illinois have, great to see someone so proactive and tough in her superhero cover role of Comptroller. Mild mannered accountant by day, crime fighter by night!

So, you are saying Mumen Rider exists, but they got the gender wrong?

Seriously, good on her. Lead my example and be the change you want to see.

Lead BY example, even.

Good on Ms. Mendoza, but, really one should be careful about trying such things yourself, especially when dealing with someone whose nickname could either be shortened form of "draws and" or announcing a propensity to signal "I got next" as their reactions to being tailed could vary.

I'm still wondering what a comptroller normally does. I mean surely it's not all chasing down mobsters on pushbikes.

Like, are they allowed motorcycles?

It must have killed John Kass to have to write a column praising a Democrat.

Ha, my own city council beat her to the crime-fighting. Several years ago, our then vice-mayor aka a local bank's VP was in his bank office, when a teller came in and asked him what to do about a gent who wanted to cash out his accounts.... the teller, you see, recognized the guy as someone the cops were looking for, for tossing his girlfriend over their apartment balcony (she died). So vice-mayor/bank VP sat with the guy in his office, stalling for time by trying to tell this guy who was wanted for murder about the financial drawbacks of cashing out his accounts and hoping the cops would arrive, which for some reason took almost an hour.

That was followed a few months later when the council members were leaving city hall after a meeting, and somebody yelled something about a thief --- at which point three of the council members ran after the guy, and one managed to tackle & subdue him.

My city council: tough on crime.

Right? (I really waffled on whether to give him the link juice, he's such a hack.)

Heh, I'm glad you did, I'm cackling over the fact that there was no freaking way he could have avoided writing about Democrat Super-Mendoza busting "Quarters" Boyle. Might not be so easy next time he want's to take a cheap swipe at her.

I'm not from Chicago, but you all call him Jack instead of John, right?

I think this was linked to somewhere on here before, but this was the first time I heard of her...

Which impressed me maybe more than the crime fighting.

Idiotic thing to do. Please don't ever chase a criminal.
