That's weird, it works just fine in an incognito window for me - most of instagram isn't login gated (unless people have like "you have to be following me to see this" permission on).

I was expecting the baker behind the Pies Are Awesome videos, who has recently made a Calvin and Hobbes-Inspired "Piescraper", and previous elaborate pastries with themes ranging from Wonder Woman to Cthulhu...

As much as I love pie (and looking at lovely pies), I hate baking pastry that has fiddly bits that require precision ... even thinking about attempting a regular, perfect pie with straight lines and edges anywhere near it is enough to make me feel anxious and frustrated.

Maybe I need some pie to self-soothe...

Those are really cool.
I was wondering how she maintained such definition in her crusts after baking.
I usually do an all-butter crust, and the designs I cut into it always sort of puff up and expand and get a little more loose and rustic-looking when I bake them. I thought maybe she had a denser crust recipe, not as flakey or something. But no, she does pretty much what I do except she uses carbonated mineral water for the water and adds egg with it.
Also, hurray fall pie season is coming...

Me too. My crusts always warp in the oven. I am inspired, though, by this. They're SO PRETTY.

I’m sure they’re all wonderful but I kind of wonder if making a crust that you can shape like this that will retain its shape after being in the oven is actually an optimal pie crust to eat. I can see how some of the qualities you’d want for this would create a suboptimal level of flakiness when baked.

I have a set of tiny cookie cutters with which I can make cute cutouts on the top crust. These are stunning and I am humbled. Also, pie is a pretty good cure for how screwed up the US is right now. Thanks for posting.

So here's the thing. There are like a host of different pie crust types out there. These are gorgeous, but likely not flaky and buttery. These are designed to be cut and hold their shape. Maybe - maybe I could make this dough - I don't think I could cut the intricate shapes, but I'm pretty comfortable I could make the dough after looking at the sharpness of the edgework and what have you.

What I can't do though, is make the kind of pie dough that I like, which is slightly more peasanty I guess... its got a certain crumb that shatters on the cross sectional... But because I break into a fit of rage and swears if the dough fails to transfer pans properly, well... I don't get to... well scratch that making dough makes me... Well... when I get the consistency perfect, and all I'm trying to do is get it into a pan... well. I turn into a nutcase... My wife literally forbade me from making dough as a result. The ban has been 3ish years since the last time I made pie crust. I love to make it. I love to eat it, I love it when it comes out right... I'm over the moon... but... its like a demilitarized zone for me and pie crust.

And looking at these, I know I could make a plan, build the tuieles, place them, attatch them... everything necessary... but... just not with my dough...

So if you want to talk about food being a drug... this is like black tar heroin. All I want to do right now is very naughty things with pies that likely raise my blood pressure to unhealthy levels...

No... not those naughty things... just gah...

This was my next stop after the King Willi post. "Graphic pies" meant something different to me than it apparently did for everyone else, and I almost did not click on the link. These pies are, however, quite beautiful and SFW.
