Koleen Brooks, in getting elected mayor of Georgetown, CO, was hardly the first to successfully transition from the stage to politics. But what makes her story unlike the high-profile successes of Ronald Reagan (and perhaps more akin to the that of Gov. Ventura both in notoriety and for their "independent" political affiliation) is that her stage had a metal pole and lots of nudity (NSFW). In a recent interview, Koleen Brooks discusses her political forays cut short for now by a recall election last month.

There is certainly nothing new about controversial celebrity characters being elected to office, especially local office, and as the mayor of Inglis, FL has demonstrated with her anti-Satan proclamation, it is easy to obtain national notoriety while remaining well within the bounds of "traditional conservative values". Nevertheless, might Brooks's successful candidacy be the beginning of a more significant trend within American politics as the sons and daughters of the Sexual Revolution bring their sexual dilettantism into the dominant elderly voting bloc?

I've been thinking a lot about Satan lately. Basically I've decided that the prince of darkness really doesn't get his dues anymore. I've noticed a trend that among contemporary religious Americans the concept of Satan and Hell are sort of unfashionable. It seems as though in past generations Satan played a more prominent role in day-to-day life – indeed there was a constant battle between light and darkness for the immortal souls of men. In song and story Satan was a seductive character who would appear to tempt men – to get them to sign over their souls. But this doesn't really appear to happen much anymore. Modern Christians seem to be of the opinion that God and Jesus are smiling down on them when something good happens, but "have a larger plan" or "work in mysterious ways" when something bad occurs. I think modern Christians are uncomfortable with the idea of Satan existing when their god is supposed to be loving and all-powerful. Why, after all, would god allow Satan to exist and meddle in men's lives when God is supposed to be looking out for us? Now, I'm getting off on this whole "why does evil exist when God is supposed to love us" tangent, which isn't my intention. Not that any of my rambling has anything to do with this thread – I'm just wondering where Satan has gotten off too.

I don't know about the whore comment. At least a little flesh in politics would be welcome (depending, of course, on the politician), but, at least she's bared her position and politics to the world...
