Octopus Villages

Octopuses, previously believed to prefer solitude, are building small villages underwater off the coast of Australia.

First noticed in 2012, the long-term, high-density occupation of one site has been followed by the 2017 discovery of a second village nearby.

Per the abstract: "Behavior at this second site confirms that complex social interactions also occur in association with natural substrate, and suggest that social interactions are more wide spread among octopuses than previously recognized."
