The mailbox bomber's manifesto. Some interesting, if incomprehesible, stuff from Luke Helder. Yes, I got the link via Fark, but I thought it might inspire some conversation here...

Whoa. I'm sure it sounded great in the dorm at 2AM.

On the whole, it makes a very compelling argument for immediately dismantling every teen self-esteem program running in the country today.

Is it so difficult for these people to pay attention to spelling and grammar when writing manifestoes?

If they just took a little care, folks might overlook the insane ramblings.

"Well, he may be randomly killing folks, but at least he knows the difference between 'affect' and 'effect.'"

Kids, never try to bong-hit your way to social enlightenment.

Frankly, it sounds to me like the kid might be bi-polar, because I've had two friends over the past year pop a lid suddenly and start raving in an almost identical manner and both wound up under psychiatric care with bi-polar diagnoses. WHile on manic jags both of them undertook massive building/art projects that they devoted an insane amount of time to perfecting (they weren't explosive in nature, but I guess I could see how they could be).
He seems about the right age as well.
I think this whole thing is kind of sad actually.

What's funny is that he spends six pages talking about not fearing death, then when he's finally ready to give up to the cops, what's his one request? "Please don't tackle me!" (low on page). Sure, feel free to blow up some 70-year-old woman, but we wouldn't want you to get a skinned knee.

How is blowing up mailboxes enlightening anybody?

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

I think someone is a good way past pot. Sounds like the rants of someone on acid, or todays popular choice of ecstasy maybe?

Funny little men in white suits are coming to take him away no doubt.

BUH-BYE !!!

The most interesting part of this to me is the references to lucid dreaming. In my early twenties I experimented with lucid dreaming for awhile and had to stop because it fucked with my head so much (and I didn't really even get that hooked on it). My problem with it was that it made my dreams more "real" and the feeling of control in a dream is extremely addictive. But, when conscious, I felt more like I was in a dream than I had before and I would become angry and frustrated with my relative lack of control in the real world. Ultimately, it just blurs the line between dream and awake. If this kid is really doing lucid dreaming regularly, it explains to me a lot of what he is doing.

Other than that, I think there are the kernals of some good ideas buried in the midst of the insane ramblings and it's too bad he had to devalue his own ideas by running around the country planting bombs.

Are you sure he isn't a Fark member? Sure reads like it.

Who knows? Maybe in a couple thousand years, this boy will be regarded as a prophet and this manifesto a sacred text.
