16thandmission: Urban Data Stories

16thandmission: Urban Data Stories is "an investigation into the interplay of data, interactivity and narrative in an urban environment. It takes as its focus the corner of 16th and Mission Streets in San Francisco.... Depending on the state of the bus system at any given moment, the narratives interrelate to a variety of degrees with the map framework." [For you non-san-franciscans, 16th and Mission is a well-known intersection - lively, multicultural, gritty]

great link.

however, i'm not quite seeing any orange and green arrows (linked to the nextbus data, as they describe in their about page).

er, help?

this is something i'd love to see done as an installation as a huge projection with some sort of clever control device.

My, my ... another inscrutable Flash site ... "The brain-damaged UI _is_ the content! Click, little fools, click forever!"

Um. Confusing.

I used to live three blocks from 16th and Mission, though, so it was enjoyable. Now I want a burrito.

I second that, Kafkaesque! Yum!

re: 16andmission: I don't normally like flash wanks, but for some reason I rather enjoyed this one. Reminds me of the old volumeone.com stuff. Thanks for sharing, vacapinta.

Awful, awful, awful UI... front page just scared me away: nothing friendly to pull me in, and a link that said Full Screen Flash... which just screams "I will crash your browser".

Cripes, I grew up on 15th and Mission...nice link, vacapinta. Kafkaesque, I'll race you to Pancho Villa or La Cumbre! :) Last one there buys the horchata.

I've been visiting Eric's site for a while and he has occasionally provided links to it in different stages of completion. When he posted today that it was "finished", I didnt hesitate. I think it's beautiful.

Watch out for those La Cumbre burritos, they're tasty but sometimes they give you food poisoning (I think it was the guacamole.)

Don't forget Indian ice cream for desert!

Confusing and beautiful. I liked it because I'm not very familiar with San Francisco, and it felt like trying to find bearings in a strange city, in a way. I almost didn't go in because of the f-word, then spent 10 minutes happily lost.
