Well... the BFI Blade Runner: The Final Cut is pretty good, if that's a modern trailer.

The modern makeover is certainly effective...I was planning to listen to NPR and do housework but now all I can think of doing is plunking down on the couch and turning on Star Trek in any form. But I barely made it through the original trailer without my attention wandering.

As I remember Roddenberry hated the Trek II. ST:TMP was his baby and it bombed so the studio took the movies away from him and make them more action oriented.

Sort of. It's about Kahn's need for vengeance, and his need for Kirk to follow him on that path, and how close he comes to doing just that. The space battles (which ToS has in abundance, mind) are just the icing on the cake of an interesting exploration of characters.
