Bite-size horror

Halloween, when even the candy ads (well, sort of) are scary. Viewers watching various Fox networks over the past week have been visited by some strange and chilling advertising just in time for Halloween. For this, they can thank Fox and Mars candy brands, which teamed up to get up-and-coming horror directors to make disturbing short films, which have been running in their entirety during commercial breaks. Original story in AdWeek, with an interview of the directors of "Floor 9.5."

I just saw "The Road," and I was surprised by how scary it was. It did not make me want to eat candy at all, but it does make me want to watch the rest of the short films.

These are really good, aside from the voiceover guy who I swear says "BITE SIZE WHORE" before each film.

A former co-worker of mine had this to say about the campaign.

I'm not sure they are effective for selling product, but as products themselves they aren't bad.

You know what's really scary? I'm already seeing Christmas ads on TV.

These are fun. Horror is a genre where, if you pay attention to short films and their creators, you can often spot great directors and writers before they emerge into features. I'll be taking note of several of these names.
