Nupedia is an open source encyclopediathat anyone can contribute to, much in the spirit of DMOZ, the open directory project. It's an attempt to combine the world's experts into one knowledge resource. I guess the question is now...can it work?

Interesting approval process. It looks very complex. It seems they have things well thought out, but I'm wondering if they're not going to be completely overwhelmed by the volume of submissions?

Well, as with almost everything else, the value of a traditional encyclopedia is mostly in the editing -- and the reputations of the editors,

(Ok, this isn't *strictly* true; encyclopediae trot on the writers' reps a bit more than most things, but...)
