Same sex classrooms? The Bush administration is encouraging it. Some say it cuts distractions, but others say it's just another form of segregation. Would you support same-sex classrooms?

No. But I would support some-sex classrooms.

Phooey. I searched MeFi for same sex classrooms. No results. It should have a "search for similar terms" option.

In light of Dirjy's comment, I wonder -- shouldn't it be called "same-gender" instead of "same-sex?" Sex refers to...well, sex. Gender refers to male/female. Right? Or am I splitting hairs?

I'm with the Economist: "Gender is a word to be applied to grammar, not people. If someone is female, that is her sex, not her gender. (The gender of Mädchen, the German word for girl, is neuter.)"

As an acquaintance is fond of pointing out, "Words have gender; people have sex."
