Messianic underpinnings? Pontifications? Charles Manson, according to this article, was heavily influenced by two books: Dianetics, by L.Ron Hubbard, and Stranger in a Strange Land, by R.A. Heinlein. The author seems to be making the case that Manson's cult was based on these two religious fictions, which science fiction is prone to creating.
