I believe this is it on YouTube for those, like me, whose arcane work policies block Spotify but not YouTube.

I never get tired of this. And I never get tired of this interview from 2008 from XXL magazine:
Are you following the presidential race?
Not at all.
You’re not? You know there’s a Black guy running, Barack Obama and then there’s Hillary Clinton.
His name is Barack?!
Barack Obama, yeah.
Barack?!
Barack.
What the fuck is a Barack?! Barack Obama. Where he from, Africa?
Yeah, his dad is from Kenya.
Barack Obama?
Yeah.
What the fuck?! That ain’t no fuckin’ name, yo. That ain’t that n____’s name. You can’t be serious. Barack Obama. Get the fuck outta here.
You’re telling me you haven’t heard about him before.
I ain’t really paying much attention.
I mean, it’s pretty big if a Black…
Wow, Barack! The n____’s name is Barack. Barack? N____ named Barack Obama. What the fuck, man?! Is he serious? That ain’t his fuckin’ name. Ima tell this n____ when I see him, “Stop that bullshit. Stop that bullshit” [laughs] “That ain’t your fuckin’ name.” Your momma ain’t name you no damn Barack.

I like everything about this except that they called it a remix. For some songs that are more recent and less ubiquitous I might call it a cover, but for this (even though the song's still copyrighted) I really just would use the word performance.

Ok, so maybe it's just me and I'm old, but is he singing off key on purpose? Because that kills it for me. He just keeps drifting flat halfway through a line and my teeth grate.

I don't think X has devoted a significant amount of his time to vocal training.

So the story is about a member of society that has a physical deformation. Because of this, his peers ruthlessly bully and ostracize him. Then, one day, an authority figure determines that this physical deformation can be exploited for the purposes of extracting labor and enabling other workers to continue to toil. After the authority figure determines that the bullied deformed creature is of use (and now is in favor with the authority figure), his peers stop bullying and (pretend to) like him.

Yeah, this story is one of the things I hate about Christmas. Please sign me up in the war against Christmas.

I struggled to determine if it was this or the fact dude is notoriously abusive of drugs, dogs and alcohol. It's he not as tight because he's aging out or too slammed to get it right?

Hasn't DMX's voice always sounded like a lawnmower being pushed across a gravel road?

Sure but Tom Waits can hold a key for more than four notes. Not the same issue.

And now I feel like I've come back to posting on MeFi just to attack a rapper's version of a Christmas carol.

Never mind?

I have no words to describe how much I love this. I would show it to everyone in my general vicinity, but the cat on my lap doesn't care and the humans are asleep.

Thank you.

I read about this last night and I said to mrsozzy, "You like DMX, don't you?" The reply: "I mean, he's no Ja Rule, but yeah."

We both enjoyed this a great deal.

It's good DMX got this released when he did, because today he pled guilty to tax evasion and is looking at up to 5 years in prison.
