Ben did go

Keeping watch over the sea stands a hero. His name is Ben Carlson, and the final chapter of his story began on a Sunday in 2014, when he dove into the waves to save a stranger.

One could wax poetic about the things that Ben did during his life, about how he died, and about how he gave so much to his community of surfers, lifesavers, and swimmers, but if one is to understand the effect of his life and death, it's better to witness one of the most beautiful rituals of his tribe: his paddle out.

His legacy lives on in the Ben Carlson Memorial & Scholarship Foundation and in the solemn saying his friends repeat: Ben did go.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Hey, it seems that maybe there's a link missing? There's no source for info about what Ben Carlson did / his story, so if you want to contact us to add that we can get it fixed up (or you can repost tomorrow with that change). -- taz
