“There have been about six first pregnant men,” Barker notes wryly.

So Barker stopped taking testosterone. He delayed an appointment to discuss a hysterectomy. Well, it was just a short film. Not too disruptive. But the filming went on and on – and Barker ended up telling a very different story to the one he planned. The pregnancy he chronicled was not Tracey’s, but his own. And it changed his sense of who he was.
The story of one man’s pregnancy: ‘It felt joyous, amazing and brilliant’.

This bit was funny:
I once shocked the whole Stay and Play when I told them that my partner had gone back to work two weeks after the baby was born.

A few years ago, I ran into a pregnant trans man who was wearing a shirt that said "THE MAN BEHIND THE BUMP", which I found quite amusing.

The link to Advocate article is really terrific. Heart breaking (doctor's prejudice, etc) yet beautiful for the spirit. Thanks for posting this.

Which link? Can't see any Advocate articles in the Guardian article.

I assume this:

"But 10 years after Thomas Beatie, from Hawaii, made headlines with his combination of beard and baby bump – the first publicised case of a legal male, in a traditional marriage to a woman, to give birth – the data remains scant."

Thanks!

To be clear, Beatie was not the first person to give birth after medically transitioning. He was the first to get substantial media attention (at least that anyone could remember at the time).

Indeed. I have a trans man friend who's kid is now in high school.

On a side note and not applicable to me, I long for the day people can wear their hair and their clothes without it having gender or sexuality implications.

Oh wait, I used to shave my head because it was cheap, looked good, and felt fantastic, and people thought (and behaved) as if they thought me lesbian or undergoing cancer treatment.

Also, I love that transpeople are being recognised more in the media. I know two (and I am an agoraphobic introvert, so I don't know many people), one is my daughter's best friend, and for so long I had no idea, which resulted in my prejudice and lack of understanding - I hope that the world is becoming a better place for youse guys as a result.
