Watch as a Saskatchewan woman saves the day for a perplexed porcupine. Feel your heart swell as an Ontario photographer shoots a very special wedding on 24-hour notice. Cringe as cars whiz by a Quebec Welcome Beaver (he isn't harmed). Finally, enjoy Canada.com's favourite cute animal pictures.

I don't know how I haven't seen this viral porcupine video already, but I'm glad I didn't miss it entirely. I love how calm the woman and the porcupine both are (I do realize the porcupine is probably quite tired, but still, they worked together well!).

If you have weird embed blocking like me, the first video might not work; it’s also here.

Gah that porcupine video. Her voice is so soothing and validating. When she says "ohhhhh, that's how this happened" I was ready to burst. May all of us who get stuck in a bad way be blessed with unconditional understanding & support.

That wedding one, oh my god. In the same room.

Thanks for the feels!

The cute animal one has the best photo of a goat kissing a cat on the top of its downy soft little head, and I can't even.

It also reminded me I was going to research why goats smell of goat's cheese.

Here’s the original Facebook post of the porcupine video which the news orgs didn’t link to because, i guess, they’re afraid you’ll leave their precious websites.

I challenge anyone to read the wedding story without any excess water appearing in their eyes.

Also: in the CBC porcupine story, click on the link about the owl flying into the Saskatchewan apartment and scroll down to the picture of the owl in the apartment. Why is the man in the painting wearing rubber gloves? What is the china shoe all about? Nice quilt. &c. &c.

Rubber gloves cause he's at the sink doing dishes.

Or he's preparing to grab a wild owl.

Oh doy, yes, now I see it. He is doing dishes. I was distracted by the gesture, which looked like ballet arms upon first glance. Now I look at it and it's as if he is about to tear the gloves off and fling them out of the frame. Possibly hitting the owl.

I want to watch the porcupine video, but I'm currently working on a necklace with porcupine quills and I fear I'd end up feeling too guilty to finish it.

porcupine gets an A+ for determination, but a D- for planning and problem-solving.

The woman gets an A+++ for soothing voice and neighborliness.

I know how you feel, little guy.

We all know how you feel.

That porcupine video is basically the Canadian Voight-Kampff test.

Also, how many people were waiting for the Welcome Beaver to say "Bienvenue au Canada!"

Hey, I grew up in Fort Erie (the wedding link). Weird to see it appear on Metafilter haha

The porcupine video is much better with sound. I hadn't realized I had it on mute when I first watched it, and watching the porcupine struggle to get up the snowbank while the woman seemingly silently refuses to help was excruciating. "Put the scraper under his back feet! Look at him trying so hard to get his other foot up there! HELP HIM!!!" It made my heart ache. Hearing that she was actually giving encouragement and apparently trying to figure out how to help made me feel much better.

They're just porcupines, Leon.

Also make sure you go to the bottom of the story for the Owl wrangling tips.

In another linked story about an owl rescued by the Salthaven West wildlife rehabilitation centre, you can see the centre's director sporting what appear to be professional-type gloves for owl wrangling.

Those Owl wrangling tips seem to be more like Wranging Warnings. Now I feel the need for some actual, useful tips and am frustrated.

Now I feel the need for some actual, useful tips and am frustrated.

Comme ça?

Materials needed:

1. Birds of prey (owls, hawks, falcons)

2. Glove (leather, tough cloth)

3. Jesses (leather strips)

4. Cage (or bird habitat/exhibit)

5. Bird perch (a place where bird is standing)

Here's some info on the myriad of rules involved in falconry in Ontario (I was curious how such things might fit in with the Migratory Bird Treaty Act).

In related MBTA news, I just got my U.S. Eagle Feather Permit today! Now I get to wait months to [more likely] years to get feathers. Thanks, Department of the Interior!

I'm impressed the porcupine figured out what she was doing and went with it. That's fairly smart.

Oh, that "in the same room" for the wedding. Wow.

Cute animal photos are indeed cute; however "Baby Alpaca" is NOT. Sure, it's cute, but it's not real, dagnabit, it's a felted toy!!

*feeling better now, thanks*

Yes, it’s a Shetland pony wearing pajamas.

It's a Shetland pony wearing a Shetland jumper! Sheesh.

Someone replaced the baby alpaca with a tiny, felted wool baby alpaca.
