Organizers Cancel Universal FanCon After Raising $56,000 on Kickstarter

Universal FanCon was supposed to be a new convention in Baltimore, billing itself as the "first multi-fandom Con dedicated to inclusion, highlighting Women, LGBTQ, the Disabled and Persons of Color." They raised $56,000 on Kickstarter last year. The con was scheduled to start next Friday at the Baltimore Convention Center. Yesterday, it was postponed until further notice.

Metafilter user nonasuch is on the scene as one of the artists affected.

One of my very first posts was when the Firefly cast rescued fans in a very similar situation, so I'm emotionally partial to those affected.

I have no association with the con or nonasuch.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Instantly reposting a deleted post isn't a great way to go. (It creates a clear pathway for people to get self-link/signal-boost content posted to Mefi, just post it, get deleted, and someone will repost it verbatim for you.) I assume your intentions are good here but this creates a needlessly awkward situation. -- LobsterMitten
