Ratting with terriers. 22 minutes of small muddy dogs efficiently and enthusiastically killing wild rats in a manure pile on a Cornwall farm. CONTENT WARNING: animal death, animal injury, dead and dying rats, horrible squeaking, some blood and gore, occasionally indecipherable Cornish accents. (None of the dogs are injured.) Weirdly satisfying in a Working Dogs With Jobs way.

Even with the content warning, this is pretty abhorrent content to post here. There are a lot of other jobs dogs do. I'm not going to "flag" it but doubt I'm the only one who feels this way.

If there were more background on the role of working dogs in domestication, that would've added more to the post.

Weirdly satisfying in a Working Dogs With Jobs way.

That sort of visceral glee may not be what MetaFilter's for.

My secret business plan (that I‘m only sharing in the cozy privacy of MetaFilter) is a bike ratting business in the SF East Bay. I would ferry the terriers around in a bike trailer and offer local, sustainable, non-toxic pest-control services.

While somewhat gruesome, I suspect the rats would rather go out like this instead of succumbing to poison bait.
