Nice of Honda just to do it, rather than complaining about it until they're forced to and then blaming it on someone else *cough*ford*cough*.

My 2001 Civic isn't in there, but the 98 that I had would have been.

Are auto recalls really that big of a deal? If you've registered your address with your automaker, they send you notifications of recalls. They happen all the time, although a few make major news from time to time.

The NHTSA has tons of information about auto industry recalls past and present (info dating back to 1966).

There are countless incidents of reputed problems with automobiles that don't generate recalls. Watch 20/20 or its ilk from time to time and you'll see these all over the place.

I guess my question to you is, was this one recall worth a frontpage post? There's lots of interesting links and information about the practice of auto recalls. I really wish this post had been a little more richly developed so we could have more to talk about than late-model Hondas we've owned.

I don't recall ever owning a Honda.

Scratch that. I recall about six Hondas.

Must have been a bad three minutes, there.

Really, a million-car recall isn't that unusual. And Ford does recalls of this scale all the time, too.

dhartung, you have no idea.

Interesting. I drive a 97 honda civic, and the ignition has been having problems. Now I guess I won't have to pay for the repair. Cool.

Yeah, but that's only because Ford (and U.S. brands in general) is synonymous with the term "shitbox".

My Civic has been trouble free for almost 160,000 miles.

And Ford does recalls

... this big all the time... my 3-year old windstar had 8 recalls... wasn't it supposed to be the "safest" vehicle... thankfully it's gone, and ford is no longer in my consumer lexicon....
