Too happy could be a thing

“It’s not my job as a neurologist to make people happy.” I would think being too happy could put a person in danger. This is something the article didn’t discuss. I want the anxiety to creep in so that I can be careful of doing something that’ll cause problems for me.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Heya, this looks like an interesting enough link but posts to the front page need to not be framed as personal opinion/anecdote takes and the followup conversation in the thread is kinda bearing out that issue. -- cortex

So I was really more interested in the bit with the competing stimulation treatments/theories, but not least given the high rate of comorbidity between depression and anxiety, is it not possible that both areas are involved in some way?

Ugh no. I am dealing with anxiety, and that's not what you want. It is the opposite of helpful.

Anxiety is your nervous system telling your body and brain DANGER HIDE TROUBLE FIGHT PAIN WORRY for no good goddamned reason and your body and brain go along with it. All day long at a moderate level and then SUPER FREAK OUT TIME due to some crisis like... drinking tea or seeing a particular TV commercial or because it's a sunny day or having to make a phone call.

What you want is not anxiety, and not to be totally blissed-out all the time by some medical device, but general calm alertness and a healthy sense of self-preservation.

@Foosnark, I have been dealing with anxiety my entire life. I have never slept a night through nor have I had a day when I don’t have that horrible feeling something was going to go wrong. I’ve learned to live with it but I think complete happiness and life void of anxiety could cause me to make decisions that are with much less thought regarding those around me, but that’s just my theory according to my particular being.
