So the new movie will come out 24 years after raiders came to theatres in 1981, since raiders was set in 1936, this new movie should take place around 1960, right?

My comment from the first time this was posted, in response to bobo123 this time: I've heard that after making Schindler's List, Spielberg couldn't bear to make "comical villain" style Nazis anymore. So, an older, post-war, Indy is also a good excuse to get away from that.

I don't know accurately they need to keep the dates as far as chronology goes. If I'm not mistaken, the story of The Temple of Doom takes place *before* Raiders of the Lost Ark. Aging actors notwithstanding, they could probably have it take place at any time during the Indy continuum.

Hey I've been quoted! Oddly my first mention of raiders was capitalized and italicized, but not my second, those editors... and they added three dots where I had a comma. Still it's cool being quoted, but I hope I don't get quoted on the Kashmir conflict.

"Star Wars -- Episode III: The Whine of the Jedi" is also supposed to come out in 2005, is it not? That's shaping up to be a great summer for us action-movie buffs.

All the initially linked article said is that they've hired yet another screenwriter. Slating a release date before the script is written, let alone approved, let alone given a greenlight for production to begin at a certain time given the schedules of everyone involved, is ridiculous. I want this movie to happen, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I think that movie started the use of the term "prequel." Actually, I think the term was coined for Butch and Sundance: The Early Years. Ironically, the word seems to have been a lot more successful than the movie.

No, seriously, I've got it. Indy gets frozen a la Buck Rogers and wakes up in 2002 where he is foisted upon an unsuspecting Europe in an effort to stem the upsurge of extreme right-wing proclivities by penetrating the depths of the 'Chunnel Catacombs' to retrieve an urn of Hermann Goering's tash-clippings which cult members are using to summon a Krakken, only there's this sub-plot where Indy doesn't know if he's actually an android or not but it's left ambiguous and everyone goes home disappointed. Leonard DiCaprio co-stars as Indy's wacky simian sidekick, Jojo the Monkey. If that gets used I am suing the studio's ass... not for plagarism, just for emotional damage.
