DAU

In 2009, over 400 people left their everyday lives to go back in time to the Soviet Union. Cut off from the modern world, for over 2 years they lived and worked as a secret research institute. They fell in love, betrayed their friends, cheated on their lovers, ran experiments, grew old, had children, were arrested and lost everything. DAU, a totalitarian society in which the cameras are always rolling and the actors never go home.

There have been posts about Dau previously, but the fact that 4 years later since the last post it is still an ongoing drama speaks to what an absolutely bonkers story this all is.

i've been wondering for years what was going to come out of Ilya Khrzhanovsky's mad elephant of a film project and apparently it's something i'll have to keep waiting for. although a trip to berlin sounds nice.

Aw, I searched for the GQ article's link before posting but it didn't find it. Oh well, at least the promotional website is new.

When I heard about secret Soviet cities, I was reminded of the secret elf cities in the Silmarillion and I was very impressed by Tolkien-- it was almost as though being smart enough gives a bit of clairvoyance.
