Gourd Speakers.While listening to my new favorite album, Verve//Remixed, I noticed that the CD jacket features these silly yet remarkably futuristic looking gourd speakers. At $1200 a pair, cuteness has its price, but these are quite possibly the world's most adorable examples of vegetable hi-fi equipment.

the verve remix album, while very good can't hold up to the original recordings. in a lot of cases the remix tracks demolished what made the originals so great. on the other hand, electro lounge is awesome and the rip-off artist remix of "sway" is worth the price of admission alone.

oh yeah, the speakers are cute tho. it seems they'd go wonderfully in a tiki lounge...

Hehe. You gotta admit that they look quite easy to do. Just go to a farmer's market & get 2 matching gourds. Spend $200 on a nice set of matching speakers. Then, wire them up. Maybe I'll make some for my new apartment.

Incidentally, I think that part of the price is that these are made by an artist (not, say, a 10 year old in China). So you're not just buying a set of speakers -- you're buying functional art, that's priced accordingly.

Please forgive me if you meant you already knew what they were, but were having a hard time trying to find them. They look really nice, too bad the B&W site doesn't have anything on 'em by the looks of it.
