{reads} I have previously opened a plum festival (side-point: I was paid in plums). And here is a jar of plum jam from a villages show a few weeks ago.

I have gone back to the Listing to Port site and found the following other recent notable lists:
Twelve convenient apocalypses almost all with potential resolutions; see #5
Ten ways that people who like their coffee to be like their prospective sexual partners
Seven unusual instruments
Eight fairy tails (not a typo)
one of the occasional long lists of short entries: Animals with rhyming hobbies
and the related What kind of monster does this? A case-by-case analysis starting with "What kind of monster takes someone else’s food from the shared fridge?"

In my authority as a contributor to the original best-selling Book of Lists (Volume 2) nearly 40 years ago, I approve of all this.

Is the title a nod to Nine Nectarines?

Maybe? I always got the impression that LTP just riffed off of a given subject and went with however many things that they came up with.
