"And what shall we call the wall, Hadrian?"

If Peter Capaldi had not gotten the Doctor Who gig, the only time travel he would have been known for would be as a tipsy sidekick to a self-proclaimed tight-suited, unfunny fat bastard (previously) in a drunk Time Tunnel parody. Also featuring Jenny Agutter. From The All-New Alexei Sayle Show. Definitely not the best of the web. MLYT.

The boys drop in on Rasputin, George Washington, Archduke Ferdinand, Hadrian, Genghis Khan, and King Herod (NSFW: belly dancer).

Course, it’s all fun and games until you fight Daleks with only poor special effects and extremly bad judgement of when to leave cover.

Ooh look it's Carson!

Yeah, monumentally bad production values for the '90s. Or any era.

The bad production values would be fine if there were like, jokes.

Definitely not the best of the web.

But still beats Kill the Moon by a very, very long way.

ELizabeth Sandifer, one of my favourite Doctor Who comentators, makes a good case for Kill the Moon, though personally it's not bourn out by watching the episode and actually finding it enjoyable.

FWIW I do enjoy Drunk In Time's one dumb joke though.

Definitely a fan, but if it's the same Alexei Sayle series I'm thinking of there are also sketches where he equates Worf with someone who has stuck his head in a bucket of shit, plus an ad for the Channel Tunnel with the excellent and accurate motto "It's Only Caught Fire Once!" So, hit and miss stuff if you go digging for more.

Count me in as a fan too of Kill The Moon, which like Gridlock, you have to accept on its own weird, internal logic.
Although I didn't much like the school trip one with Danny and the trees because I am a horrible inconsistent person.

I remember not to long ago seeing Alexi doing a 'joke' about not being able to buy an ordinary custard tart in Hampstead (*Alexi Sayle voice* 'You can only get Portuguese natas!') and thinking 'What the fuck happened?'. I also read a novel of his and it was rubbish.

Oh for the days when he was living in his jag.

Yes, in recent years Sayle has gone full Garofalo, and as we all know, you never go full Garofalo.

(Just kidding Janeane; keep going on Fox News and metaphorically tearing the anchors some new anal orifices as often as possible. You're doing God's work.)

I confess I laughed. But I also still laugh at The Comic Strip Presents...

...which is, to be fair, very very funny.

I quite liked some of his short stories. There's quite a good one about changing mores relating to single motherhood.

This is a perfect pastiche of the abominable Time Tunnel tv show, that turned up on 80s/90s UK tv along with a few other American scifi-ish programs from the 60s, such as Land of the Giants and Lost in Space, and were all unwatchable

I particularly light the bit where they "fall" amongst the blinking lights, then tumble in slow motion into the historical scene, which is pretty much straight from the show.

IIRC the very first episode was an effects extravaganza, with the time tunnel being shown as part of some vast Black Mesa like complex, with mattes that wouldn't look out of place in Forbidden Planet, and then after that you only got the one soundstage and an assortment of backlot sets.
