Here's the playlist for the entire "Gourmet Makes". I don't normally watch food TV/YouTube, but somehow Claire and this series captured my attention.

I binge watched all of these a few weeks ago; they're delightful. I also have really enjoyed the It's Alive series with Brad Leone, whose cheesy goofy humor warms my cockles.

She and faux-Chris Pratt make a great team.

Oooh. I love these kind of reconstructions! Added to my youtube subs now, thanks!

We've been watching this series too. It's really great, and I'm so jealous of her life. The Skittles one gave me an appreciation for candy making.

I love "Gourmet Makes"! It hits my Great British Bake Off brain center.

Sad news: Claire has left Bon Appetit. I fear the series may (may!) be coming to an end.

That was super delightful, and also many thanks to Pistache for adding to this thread the one thing I felt was missing from the video given the title here.

Twizzlers are NOT licorice. Red Vines are the one true licorice. This is a debate mostly isolated to the American West Coast as Red Vines are not commonly found elsewhere but it could break up friendships as it has no middle ground. Real Red Vines do not taste like candles and cough syrup.

Come at me bro

Like Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt, we're a Red Vines family.

Red Vines are made in Indiana, and are easily found everywhere here in Ohio. Seconding Red Vines are superior.

Red Vines have no licorice in them. Neither do Twizzlers, for that matter.

"We're going to make twizzlers" sounds way harder than "We're going to make licorice" probably because I understand that licorice is a real thing that people can make and twizzlers are a plasticy nightmare masquerading as edible.

Noooooooooooo!!!!

I love the entire BA test kitchen crew, but Claire (and this series) is what got me hooked on their YouTube channel.

Just found out that licorice can (for some value of can) be spelled "liquorice". I am now in support of Brexit. (Not really)

Also, turns out the active flavor component of licorice is glycyrrhizin, which makes me want to get back into scrabble. (Not really. Oh no. Not falling off that particular wagon. No)

"Sad news: Claire has left Bon Appetit. I fear the series may (may!) be coming to an end."

Oh dang, I loved this series, I hope she can still make an appearance or maybe someone else take up the mantle. You always see other people in the background of videos that don't seem to have a series going on that I can see. I wonder what she is up to next.

Most people hate real licorice, and neither Twizzlers nor Red Vines qualify if you want to Be That Way.

Is this where we come to complain that Claire left Bon Appetit? Because damnit, Claire was the best, especially when she teamed up with Brad.
posted by dw at 12:38 PM on September 24, 2018

Honestly, not to disturb the love parade or anything, but I cannot stand Brad at all. That doofy "yeah, I dunno, just do whatever man" shit is just not entertaining to me in, like, educational videos where somebody is allegedly trying to teach you a recipe or a technique. (Which means he's tolerable in Claire's "a pasty chef makes gourmet X", somewhat, since he just pops in for a quick taste test or whatever, but I couldn't make it more than a minute into any of his solo videos.)

Bon Appetit, especially Claire and Brad's shows, are great examples of an old media company using their talent in a new media market place.

These videos are also the reason I subscribed to the print version of BA. Thanks to Claire I started diving more deeply into their content, which, it turns out, captures a perfect balance of educational and aspirational for me. It's the only magazine I get.

Looking forward to Claire chasing the dragon of Youtube fame on her own, in her own kitchen. "Pastry Chef Attempts to Make Gourmet Rice Crispies Treats"

This video was delightful and I am here to tell you that so is Bon Appetit generally. A subscription is really cheap (mine wants to renew at $20 plus a free gift sub) and their app is de-fucking-lightful.

Seriously, I use their iPad app all the time and it's a really great example of digital reconstruction of a print item. Plus you can read everything offline so it's the perfect plane read. Anyway, Bon Appetit is A+ and recommended.

If you look closely, on the final day in the twizzlers video, her colleagues are wearing the "half-sour" shirt mentioned in the article about her going-away party, so, well, I think we can guess why she finished before entirely perfecting them :).
