This is much better than it really would need to be to make many Star Trek fans very happy

I.... I......... this could make millions

Gold. The only thing that would make this better would be if you found a way to work in the right prefix code.

Re-record this with Henrey Rollins as Khan and I'll devote a paycheque to kick-starting it.

16309, Reliant's prefix code
One fewer digit than my Kindle stick
When it's in Netflix mode!

You say I'm green, that it's training I lack?
I say the way things work on starships
Yours is likely already hacked.

Kirk-starting it, surely.

When I hear, "a musical spin on Star Trek" my expectations get pitched pretty low. This... exceeded them. By quite a lot.

For what it's worth, this was the first issue of Mad I bought.

Dammit, Jim! I'm a doctor not a song-and-dance man!

(This is SO awesome)

This is the best, but the project Facebook page has a couple more songs and a little of the script, and it's all fun.

Throwing in a couple of musical flourishes reminiscent of the O GOD DRAMA SPACE FIGHT DRAMA soundtrack would be fun.

This very much reminds me of the Genie (Robin Williams) singing to Aladdin and Abu.

To be fair, though, Shatner was, like, 50 when they filmed that. Younger than I am now. Had his hair been real, it may well not have been grey.

This seemed a lot more important when I first thought of it.
posted by allthinky at 5:23 PM on September 25, 2018

That takes some sense of timing to Shatner correctly relative to a triplets and a swinging beat. Impressive!

"No less crappy than most current musicals." raves Youtube commenter that definitely thinks "Watched Frozen" qualifies him to talk about current musicals.

I don't know who's doing the singing, but that's an amazing Shatner vocal. You'd almost think he could really sing, and we have multiple albums showing he can't.

No title for the musical so far but clearly it needs to be called KHAAAN!

Spock: The Reliant can still outrun us
Kirk: The nebula is where I'll hide us
Saavik: In there, we'll have no shield
Kirk: Even, will be the battlefield
Spock: His pattern indicates he thinks in 2-D
Kirk: Helm, let's go 10000 meters, minus Z

Oh hey I actually clicked the link instead of watching it on the mefi popup and this is a brentalfloss production! And, there's a facebook group in the description where you can listen to two other (brilliant) songs and see progress on a significant portion of the whole thing and requests for feedback.

Kirk: Let's see how badly we've been hurt, on Khan it's open season!
Scotty: I brought my wounded nephew to the bridge for no apparent reason

Scotty's Lament

From the theatrical release, they cut my scene;
No one knows my nephew is deceased
All of this, I'm sure, so Kirk has time to preen;
I hope it'll be in the director's cut at least

He was my sister's youngest and crazy to get to space
At his post he stayed, while the other trainees ran
Will you look what happened, Khan's burned off his face
All because our captain is no longer a young man
posted by nubs at 9:49 AM on September 26, 2018 [3 favorites]

Mr. Chekov, I never forget a face
Where did we meet, what was the place?
It wasn't Space Seed, you hadn't yet been hired
Quick, revise the canon so the writers don't get fired

He got caught with his britches down
(Now there's an image won't make me frown)
I tried to remind him of the regulation
But I was talking above my station!

He's so human
I'm just a crewman
A reg quoting pest
Bugged by a no-win test
