"My son has parked his bike by this lamppost just about every day for the last year. This morning, this sticker had appeared. Absolutely made our day. People can be so brilliant. Thank you, whoever did it" (STL)

Nice!

But now they should update the sticker with a new photo that includes the sticker.

I am always a bit sad that we don't refer to foot-on-the-ground velocipedes as dandy horses anymore. Because the phrase "my son has parked his dandy horse" is possibly the only thing that could make this better for me.

It’s sure dusty in this office.

I saw this doing the rounds and it made me so happy. Yay kid with bike! Yay person who celebrates the kid and his bike. I'm sure this will become part of family lore for years.

That kid must be so stoked that he now officially has his very own parking spot. :D

yeah I'm sure that kid is like "who's the boss?"

Yeah but, they're called "striders", which ain't a half bad alternative.

Really? Because I think this might even be the OOT (But not the LTTP, never the LTTP.)

The kid will tell this story the rest of his life. Nothing but goodness here.

That would make it better. But it is still pretty damned good.

Maybe I'm jaded, but that seems a lot of lock for a kid on that bike to lug around.

If they're like every kid I've met or been, the parent(s) end up carrying the lock.

More engaging people in public spaces with humor and art, please. The bad guys are winning and this is the only way to defeat them. The kind and gentle shall inherit the earth, I’m convinced.

I'm worried about the commenter that "balled their eyes out." Picturing a melon baller.

Very sweet story anyway.

If this was in the UK, no doubt instead of a sticker there'd be a notice saying "locking bikes to this post is prohibited as it obstructs car parking" and the bike would have been confiscated.

Forget "dandy horse", let's go back and call it a Draisine!

If someone posted a joyful picture on MetaFilter, then someone from the UK would come along and be grumpy about it.

(Of course, the UK suffers far worse than mainland Europe does from pavement encroachment, so that's partly why pavement users get more protective.)

Has more of a whimsical WW feel to it for me.
