I think that we basically waited out the span of his short-term memory

We have small smart cowardly dog and big not very smart dog.

When bid dumb dog gets stuck in a loop small smart dog will sit down and look at us with a can you believe this look and wait until big dumb dog's short term memory expires and it exits the loop.

Some.dumb dog loops:

Unable to decide between two bones at opposite sides of the yard. Small dog sat on one bone, problem solved.

Chasing a beach ball that rolls away when dog leans on it to pee.

Trying to bite its own shadow, full stealth and pounce mode.

Blair Braverman and her bedtime stories of brave, loyal, trusting working dogs are a shining bright spot in these times.

Seriously, seriously, seriously. Blair Braverman's Twitter and videos of capybara onsens are basically my core coping tools at this point.

Some of my favorite stories involve Hari the blind sled dog. He has saved the team twice!

Grinch may be man's best friend but he apparently doesn't get along too well with cameras.

oh Grinch no

It's funny how dogs work; I could see in Jenga's face all the appalled frustration that crosses my dog's face whenever something Against The Rules is happening and the humans don't stop it or intervene in any meaningful way.

GRINCH IS A GOOD DOG

I was once the beloved hooman of an extremely dumb working breed dog. He was my favorite dog and his head was a basically a box filled with more empty boxes. If he'd been one iota smarter, we would have been in trouble because the thought balloon over his rock-filled noggin at all times was just a cartoon picture of a roasted turkey. On a couple occasions he got into a situation where he literally ate until it was coming back out of both ends, yet kept on eating. If he had been one of those dogs smart enough to learn how to open a cabinet or, heaven forbid, the fridge, we would have all been in deep doo-doo. Literally.

I'm dealing with some particularly obstreperous contractors at work right now. I'm thinking we'll try the 20 minute coffee break technique when they get stroppy next time.

When I read this thread, I was struck by how long they waited on the off chance that Grinch would spontaneously get a grip.

My dog Millie would walk forever, as long as I didn’t make a turn that was headed in the direction of home. She’d put the brakes on and look extremely sad. I'd give in the first couple of times but eventually, on every walk, I'd have to drag and push her until she relented. It was embarrassing to be dragging a very old, sad dog.

I love Millie. Just on the strength of that comment, I love her forever.
