Needle Felted Faces

I have a needle felting kit I got for the holidays a year or two ago that I've been meaning to try my hand at. Maybe after a lifetime or two I could make something as amazing as these.

I see your other animals and raise you some large disturbing felt heads.

The artistry here is just amazing, but it makes me a little squirmy to watch the actual needle felting process of the cat face.

I actually ordered a knockoff one of these two weeks ago off of Etsy after my little Bean succumbed to FIV. It hasn't arrived yet, and I know it won't mend the cat-shaped hole in my heart, but I'm still very anxious to see how it turns out. It feels like it will be the perfect little monument.

I do lots of crafts. I’ve tried so many. I love quite a few of them. But I had to stop needle felting. Because yeah, repeatedly shoving a needle into a cute little animal’s face was giving me the sads.

Wow. Those are astonishingly real looking.

I give you my main man, The Gentleman Felter.

Ug, I couldn’t look at those disconnected cat faces. Too real, too uncanny.

Whoa, those are beautiful, but also land smack in the middle of the Uncanny Valley. Especially when the artist is holding one of the busts in their hand.

Wakuneco can't be her real name, right? It translates to something like "frame-cat".

Is it rude to want a copy of what is probably someone's deceased buddy?

The Uncatty Valley, as it were.

Really uncanny. A couple of the gray tabbies look just like my cat, and it freaks me out.

I think if I had one of these of my late lamented cat I would just cry every time I looked at it. Very skillful, though.

The real story here is that these cats are being sold through Yahoo Auctions.

These are amazing and it's making me itch to learn a new set of crafting skills even though I'm just getting a handle on quilting. Looking at them though I had the same reaction as GenjiandProust - these would be amazing memorials to my past darlings, but they're so real I would just cry again every time. And I say that as someone who has a memorial tattoo of my darling kitty Samantha.

These are awesome, whenever I see felting I always want to try it.

But they are also weird and creepy.
In a good way.

This is kind of the reverse of the make-a-felt-hat-from-cat-fur thing that went round a while back.
