You know about Fallout 1 through 4, but what else happened on the long road to Fallout 76? Rock Paper Shotgun, a PC gaming news, review and article site since 1873, has asked actual real games historian Nate "Regular "FrogCroakley" Frog" Crowley to write, one tweet at a time, the history of Fallouts 5 through 75. Even if he weren't already two tweets in, we'd still be getting in a few floors above the ground floor, because of your previously-mentioned knowledge of Fallout 1 through 4.

does anyone remember the episode of Fallout where they spent the entire time arguing about where to move the couch, but in the end discovered they were holograms and couldn't actually interact with it?

I would play every single one of these games. "Rise of the Dogmen" works really well for the lore if you set the game in Denver.

I just want a version of Fallout where I can run around and shoot things and not have to build furniture.

Eerily, nobody’s sure who developed Fallout 7: Rise of the Dogmen, as it simply appeared in thrift stores. Indeed, we may never find out: when the titular antagonists began turning to camera & reciting players’ childhood fears, all copies were seized and burned.
It was clearly developed by ███████ █████!

You can play Fallout 76 like that -- you might want to plop down a quick camp with a couple crafting benches, a stash box, and a bed (you need to sleep in 76) but can otherwise go full wandering murder hobo.

Many A True Nerd, who leveled a character during the beta, helps out those entering the West Virginia wilderness for the first time.

maybe it's time for a paradigm shift in online eldritch humor, I just keep thinking about Fallout monsters turning to the screen and reciting "spiders! accidentally ingesting dangerous chemicals because you didn't wash your hands properly!" and I just get the giggle fits

Fallout 39 marked the peak of the "crafting" aspect of the franchise. Players needed to collect all 39 types of adhesives, 17 threads and pitches of screws, 22 weights of oil, and 18 types of spring before being able to put together enough machinery to be able to build their first gun. The quest for ammunition took up most of the rest of the game.

I'd play that.

I think I just want Minecraft with better graphics.

Well judging from what I've seen on youtube you totally can do this. Personally I want to build a town and worry less about shooting things (melee weapons? melee weapons.). I think the advantage of this game is that players like you would be supporting players like me, and players like me would be supporting players like you. So if you run into a store run by a neanderthal- I'll give you a mefi discount on guns and ammo.

(PSA: If you're playing Fallout 76 and want to play with other Mefites, hop over to the Mefightclub thread on the game and post your PC/PS4/Xbox nick so we can find you.)
