You know, I've heard a lot about Bill Maher. All I remembered coming into this FPP is that he's considered a prominent asshole, but I haven't watched anything he's done. So it's all hearsay...

How bad can it be? I've heard him described as liberal, I'm liberal, "Orange Sphincter" sounds promising from a Trump bashing perspective, I'll try it.

Two minutes in, he drops a lazy homophobic joke... and I'm out.

I have a weird feeling about Maher. After 9/11, he was basically the only prominent voice in American mass media who called bullshit on everything, the whole kit and caboodle of jingoistic hot garbage that led us to huge problems we are still in today, and he paid a big price for it. I never forgot that. But his social attitudes are still stuck back in 2001. I respect what he did, but I don't really care for very much that he's done lately.

Ditto, if I held the host of any such show to the same standards...I wouldn't be able to watch anything. There are useless hosts who pitch softballs and there's stuff like this. I'd rather both exist, even if hosts like Maher are assholes.
