Crypto Exchange Says It Can't Repay $190 Million to Clients After Founder Dies With Only Password. Canadian cryptocurrency exchange QuadrigaCX owes its customers $190 million and cannot access most of the funds. The trouble started when Gerald Cotten, the founder died in India of complications from Crohn's Disease — he was the only one with the passwords to the crypto wallets referred to as "cold storage." Cotten was 30.
