Apropos of nothing, here's some art for yinz. Too many do not know Arthur Dove's work, the earliest American abstract art.

I dunno, engelr, Dove may have been the earliest American abstract painter (although I'd say Ryder anticipated a lot of what Dove was doing), but the earliest American abstract ART is probably this sort of thing.

Thanks for pulling these together, engelr. It's funny; I was searching for images of Dove's work last winter. Here are three more wonderful abstractions that aren't linked from Artcyclopedia, and a few more here. And be sure to scroll 2/3 down on this page, past "Power Plant," for "Willow Tree," one of my faves. "Gear" and "River Bottom" are up there, too. :)

Ryder looks interesting, Faze, thanks for the pointer.

i've always loved arthur dove's work....he did one called "fog" (i think that is the title)....and it truely depicts what it is like to be in the middle of fog.
hmmnn...it could be "foghorn", now that i am second guessing.

Oops, that 2nd link for a few more Doves should be this.

For billybob: Foghorns.

I KNEW you were from the Pittsburgh area engelr! Ha ha.

I thought, "Yinz? Yinz? Where would the spelling of that word hail from orally?"

Pittsburgh of course!

A great portion of my famly live in the Greensburgh area, so I've heard it many a' time. But to see it nonchalantly written. Now that's gotta be a first outside of yahoo.pittsburgh.hookup.

So does that mean we've figured out what it means?
