The original John Doe #1 and John Doe #2 sketches were made from the descriptions of the clerk at the Ryder truck rental place in Junction City, KS, where Timothy McVeigh rented the truck that exploded outside the Murrah Federal Building. The FBI later determined that "John Doe #2" was a man who came into the rental store the day after McVeigh, and had nothing to do with the bombing. That's why there wasn't a great search for John Doe #2.
But many eyewitnesses in downtown OKC said they saw two men get out of the Ryder truck... posted by mdeatherage at 2:56 PM on June 22, 2002
Just weeks before Timothy McVeigh bombed the Oklahoma City federal building in 1995, U.S. intelligence and law enforcement received several warnings that Islamic terrorists were seeking to strike on American soil and that a likely target was government buildings, documents show. posted by dhartung at 4:54 PM on June 22, 2002
For my money, given the supposed backing cited by Iran and Syria, confirmation would be a real pickle. (Although it would take the wind out of the sails of the crew who think we're systematically manufacturing evidence against Iraq, that's small comfort.) But then, al Qaeda as such wasn't considered an important player back then, so who knows how the evidence fits together. posted by dhartung at 5:03 PM on June 22, 2002
They have completely diffrent jaw lines. And I don't think that's something a sketch artist would screw up.
