Josh Futturman is Future Man. A janitor by day/world-ranked gamer by night is tasked with preventing the extinction of humanity after mysterious visitors from the future proclaim him the key to defeating the imminent super-race invasion.

Sound familiar? It’s supposed to.

Future Man is a science fiction spoof/tribute series produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, now renewed for a third and final season on Hulu. Starring Josh Hutcherson, Eliza Coupe and Derek Wilson, the cast includes Rogen as..., well, you’ll have to see it for yourself. Same for Haley Joel Osment.

Well, this FPP was enough to get me to download/stream/whatever-the-legal-sounding-verb is the first season.

It's weird how there's so much TV going on right now, I literally can't keep track of it. I feel like if this were released 5 years ago, I wouldn't have been able to avoid it if I tried. Nowadays, this is the first time I'd even heard of it.

Enjoyed the first two seasons. They’re quite funny! (But beware: they are also quite naughty.)

Glad it’s renewed for a third!

this is the first time I'd even heard of it.

The Haaretz review delves into this problem: 'Future Man': How Did We Miss This Can't-miss Show? I posted for just this reason.

That article is paywalled.

The first season is pretty much non-stop retro-future extreme violence and penis gags... very well done if you like that kind of thing. The second season is very different tonally, and focuses more on story... it takes more effort to get into it, IMO. Both seasons are very good, though.

Did you see that ludicrous display last night ?

Yeah this was a surprise hit for me a couple months ago, i binged season 1+2.

I can't imagine where they'll take this concept for a 3rd season, but I AM HERE FOR IT!

Also, I liked how Wolf was the most one dimensional character at the start, but by the end of S2 (even S1 i guess) he is probably the most interesting character with the most development of any other in the show.

I am grateful to Future Man for adding Cock Pirate and Rathole-to-Rathole to my vocabulary.

Wolf is the best character in this show, period. Don’t let the early episodes convince you otherwise.

"Nowadays, this is the first time I'd even heard of it."

They carpet-bombed my neighborhood with ads for it — bus stops, billboards, etc. But it looked horrible. They did such a great job aping the gravel-voiced scifi action messiah bullshit that I didn't know it was actually a comedy until Hulu caught me out of the room and started playing it after something else had ended. It was great, I got hooked, and I've been evangelizing it to whomever would listen ever since.

"The second season is very different tonally, and focuses more on story... it takes more effort to get into it, IMO. Both seasons are very good, though."

I'd argue that the second season focuses almost zero on story, and almost entirely on character. It could have used a better balance of coherent narrative and a more concrete sense of purpose for more of the season. But both Wolf and Tiger get pretty great character arcs, even if Futterman is kinda an afterthought on his eponymous show for most of the second season.

"I am grateful to Future Man for adding Cock Pirate and Rathole-to-Rathole to my vocabulary."

I giggle over Blapple on the reg.

Oh yes, Future Man is prime Hulu watching. It's... silly.

You've got The Good Place, Legion, Atlanta, Future Man and some others to binge from there.

This feels a tad pepsi-blue. Not much meat to the post besides promotion. Maybe this should be on fanfair?

^Yep. I didn't know about fanfare. Thanks for the tip.

While it's not highly discussed, several of us love the show in FanFare. We're also voracious media consumers, so if there's a new show you like, chances are we might have discussions of it there and you just need to search for it.

Just found out Hulu is included with Spotify Premium.

^Another great tip. I think Jr Robots has a Spotify account I can hit. FXX has been bleeping, which significantly lowers the laugh quotient.

How I described it to a friend: "This is supremely stupid, but also incredibly clever."

I loved this show. It pretty much copies my view on time travel stories (physically) almost exactly (in spirit).

Future Man will always be Bela Fleck's percussionist to me.
