The Heart Still Stands - Red Fawn Fallis found love and purpose on the Dakota prarie. She thought it would save her life- instead, she went to prison

STANDING ROCK ACTIVIST ACCUSED OF FIRING GUN REGISTERED TO FBI INFORMANT IS SENTENCED TO NEARLY FIVE YEARS IN PRISON - "Fallis’s arrest occurred on land that would still belong to the Great Sioux Nation had the U.S. government honored the Fort Laramie treaties of 1851 and 1868. In January, after U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland rejected attempts by Fallis’s defense team to make treaty rights and the sprawling intelligence apparatus targeting pipeline opponents central to her case, Fallis pleaded guilty to felony counts of civil disorder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. As part of the plea bargain, prosecutors dropped the most serious charge against her — discharge of a firearm in relation to a felony crime of violence — which could have carried a life sentence."

Our church actually is one of the groups trying to help her by sending money to her canteen account and whatever books or cards the prison will let us (lots of rules there).

We were told recently that she has been moved from the Fort Worth-TX prison where she's been held to a place in California, closer to her friends and family. According to her website, she has arrived there, though there was apparently a stop in Nevada for a while.

RedFawn is no longer in Nevada and is at her new facility. We will be updating in the next few days how to support RedFawn and will include her new address.
Thank you for your patience,
Red Fawn Support Committee

I am ... well I know "shook" is a meme, but I truly am shaken. My head is fishbowling after reading the Sexual Assault link. This is horrendous.

In the Intercept link (Standing rock activist accused of firing gun...) it mentions that Glen Morris "regards Fallis as a niece". The sexual assault link, which is actually a blog post from TiyospayeNow, and writen by a Diné and Dakota woman, refers to Morris as her Hunka uncle. I looked into it: "The relationship of Hunka is difficult to define, for it is neither of the nature of a brotherhood, nor of kindred. It binds each to his Hunka by ties of fidelity stronger than friendship, brotherhood, or family." It's a disservice to everyone when we lose things at the expense of prioritizing things that come from white hands.
