I clicked through on this thinking it was going to be using that text. It didn't. It was fun (and oddly educational), but it was not THAT text.

If the in-joke in the title isn't in the wiki, it should be (also +1...ah hell, +2 for the ingenious use of it).

I was hoping it was going to be that answer (with a hat tip to the green, I hoped)! I enjoyed it anyway.

Well this is going to make me a lot more entertaining at my Spanish conversation group this week!

What? No lessons on how to scan a cat or overthink a plate of beans in Spanish?

They don't overthink beans in Spanish... they refry them.

I just remembered from my 8th grade class in Spanish, of which I have totally forgotten 97%, the teacher had an artistic skill she used to create a class mascot, a giant kidney bean with arms, legs and occasional word balloons named "Frijol". Well, make that 96.5% that I've forgotten.

I was pretty sure I knew what that meant ("smattering" would be over-stating my knowledge of Spanish), but just to make sure I plugged it into Google Translate - which charmingly informed me that the English equivalent was "Here is your plate of thought beans". Now I want Thought Beans!

I saw that episode of Star Trek and no, you don't.

Well, Greg_Ace, I got it out of Google Translate, so I was kinda hoping for the best there.

This is just the advanced level of my long-held belief that the only words you need to know in the local language are "fire" and "shark". Everything else can be figured out via charades or is unnecessary.

Mine are "Beer" "Bathroom" "Please" and "Thank you".

Everything else can be figured out via charades or is unnecessary.

A story told me recently by a stranger met in a bar in Northern Ireland:

I was traveling with my husband in Argentina. We didn't speak any Spanish, so our friend had to act as both tour guide and translator pretty much the whole trip. At one point, after a long day of hiking, we stopped for dinner, and we asked our friend to order us a couple beers. He waved at the waiter, pointed to the tap at the bar with one hand and held up two fingers with his other hand. While our beers were coming, we said, "We thought you'd talk to the waiter or the bartender - hell, even we could have just pointed and used our hands." To which he replied, "So why the fuck didn't ya then?"

We don't really overthink plates of beans, but we do make head broth ("caldo de cabeza").

Cat-Scan.com es uno de los sitios mas extraños que he visto hace mucho tiempo. No tengo ni idea porque esa gente han atrapados a sus gatos en sus escaneadores, ni porque.
