It's national vegetarian week,apparently. After reading this article on chicken nuggets, I might be converting, not that I have ever eaten a chicken nugget, of course. It's not just junk food that leaves one feeling green about the gills though. I identified all of the vegetables in this quiz, I don't know that I would want to eat all of them though.

Don't particularly have one. Just thought that three links to the guardian in the same post was a bit of a heavy reliance on a single source.

Does the flour on chicken fried steak count as a vegetable?

From an article in this week's Time Magazine:

In a survey of 11,000 individuals, 37% of those who responded "Yes, I am a vegetarian" also reported that in the previous 24 hours they had eaten red meat; 60% had eaten meat, poultry, or seafood.

The Morningstar nuggets are really good. Don't taste all that much like chicken, but then neither do the "real" nuggets, so... And bonus if you can find the buffalo wing variety!

The vegetarians above were most likely cut off from their preferred food supplies, or in the company of carnivores, and are explaining that they ate something they do not regard as proper food.

I've eaten the buffalo morningstar nuggets, recently. Worthless crap. Somehow they managed to be simultaneously hot and bland. I still haven't figured that one out.

I haven't tried quorn yet. Can't say I'm in any rush, either. I did have two Amy's organic California burgers (with swiss) on the Fourth. Very tasty. Not meaty, but I don't think they were aiming for that.

I'm by no means a vegetarian -- I eat some amount of meat a few times of week, probably, and I ain't ever gonna give up eggs or cheese -- but the more I read about industrial meat, the more I figure I need to either quit eating meat, or go hand-pick my animals for slaughter. There just ain't no trusting the supermarkets at all.

Oh, and read Fast Food Nation if you haven't yet. You don't need to be vegetarian (or even be contemplating vegetarianism) to worry about what it takes to get meat/fast food to your plate.

I recently finished off a box of Quorn nuggets. It was a nice break from morningstar, but can't beat the taste of morningstar/kellogg's buffalo wings.

five fresh fish - There's plenty that's unsavory about meat production, but as far as exotic dangers to the diner you can cut out the majority by merely avoiding ground meat. A single patty (or nugget?) of ground meat can come from dozens of animals, dramatically increasing your chances of dining on an animal with something You Really Don't Want with each bite.

I certainly won't encourage you to eat any meat, but I do suggest that you replace "community" ground meat with cuts from a single animal that you get ground up.

The Qourn nuggets are alright, but I found the cutlets to be fantastic! I stumbled on qourn in the freezer case looking for another company's chicken alternative. I'm so pleased by Quorn, I can't even remember the other product's name.
