Watch out, preppy! The Saved By the Bell reboot is coming, featuring...Zack as the evil governor of California?

Oh, and they're rebooting Punky Brewster, too.

This is an interesting set up for a revival. Gavin Newsom kind of has Zack Morris hair, so the governor thing makes a lot of sense.

I wonder how I can work this in to my ranting and ranking of California governors. I think he might be around Deukmejian or maybe Goodie Knight.

I've seen all of Saved by the Bell. If Zach Morris is a Democrat i'm voting for him

Considering that Zack Morris is trash, this makes sense.

To fix his political problem, Governor Morris decides to “send the affected students to the highest-performing schools in the state — including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the overprivileged Bayside kids a much-needed and hilarious dose of reality.”
This seems like a boring, overdone and yucky premise. They could have just rebooted it as Bayside with a new average income level and a diverse class of kids running around doing stupid shit for class.

Well just think of all the content that will have to be produced, by professional content producers, at no cost to NBC, about said premise, each instance of which will remind the consumer that NBC has launched a streaming service called Peacock.

Fortunately they'll be on streaming services that no one will actually watch.

FTA: Another spinoff, Saved by the Bell: The New Class, ran for seven seasons from 1993 until 2000.

I'm sorry, did you say SEVEN SEASONS? What?

Also agreed with bleep that this premise sounds really gross and unnecessary. Unless I guess the new students lead a revolt against the various oppressive structures that led them to be there and that the Bayside kids are immersed and entrenched in*, but this is NBC, we all know the POV is gonna be "ha ha, the poors, they're just like us only worse"

*I think I just came up with the gritty reboot version of Saved by the Bell

Zach Morris is absolutely trash, and watching a couple of those videos makes it really clear that the whole premise of that show was built on misogyny, with a healthy dose of other bigotry on the side. Yes, I watched it as a kid. I find it completely disgusting now. I don't know how they can even consider this.

I have a suspicion lurking in the back of my brain that this is all a shaggy dog joke about US Founding Father Gouverneur Morris.

The Singularity will involve time collapsing in on itself as information, matter, and energy become indistinguishable from each other. We will be able to live in whatever historical period we choose, while simultaneously re-booting the popular culture of that period.

I plan to live in WKRP In Cincinnati.

Actually, from what I caught watching over Mrs. Fish's shoulder I think you invented season 2 of Riverdale.

This is not a reboot. This is a revival.

A reboot is adapting existing characters and setting for an entirely new version. See: 2000s Battlestar Galactica

A revival is using the same actors and continuity to continue an existing series. See: Fuller House

Sorry, this is a pet peeve of mine!

Full-body cringe already! Sounds terrible, thanks. And if Gov Morris is in political trouble for closing down schools in the poorest neighborhoods, just wait to see what happens to his approval ratings when he sends those children to the rich schools!

It's weird, because Saved by the Bell provides one of the only ~income restricted~ memories I have of children's programming, when Kelly chooses to skip prom to save her parents money. Kelly hides her reason for not going (because she doesn't want her peers to know that her family doesn't have the money to spare, because she doesn't want to bring her friends down, because she doesn't want to admit how disappointed she is, etc). When Zack finds out, despite being king of very public gestures, he creates a private prom to try and replace what she's missing. I haven't watched that episode since I was a child, but in my memories it's pretty graceful and rooted in reality. Come to think of it (despite the fantasy elements of Saved by the Bell and Zack's sociopathic tendencies), the character interactions in the high school series were pretty solid. The premise of the reboot is already making me doubt that will be true here.

How about a Riverdale style reboot? Screech is methed out because when he's sober his psychic visions overwhelm him, but Zack turns up dead in an apparent autoerotic asphyxiation episode gone wrong Jesse needs to convince him to use his powers to find the real killer. Meanwhile kelly is involved in ambiguously incestuous relationships with her family. AC wants to help but is trying to keep ICE from deporting his undocumented father and is estranged from his Trump voting mother who thought they'd only deport the bad ones not guys like her husband.

And then it gets even more absurd...

Over its run, Family Matters gradually went from being a cookie-cutter sitcom to a speculative fiction soap opera starring a black scientist, and I think this is amazing and ought to be more widely recognized - maybe the reboot could be more along those lines. Also, the series finale has the same plot as Gravity.

I think it's pretty clear that none of the original cast members would want to work with Screech ever again.

I just realized that in my dark'n'gritty joke/pitch I gave the boys real jobs and relegated the girls to helping and weird sex. Shit. Sorry.

Howabout Jesse as the methed out psychic while her friend Screech, who hooks on the side, tries to convince her to solve the murder while Kelly is suspected of bank robbery due to her family's sudden newfound wealth?

My spouse has developed a theory that Bayside High is the local high school of the movie Dark City.

Saved By The Bell makes much more sense if everyone's memories are erased at the end of every day and their roles within the world are randomly shuffled. While the age of the characters insures that they will always have the position of "high school student", and their basic personalities remain the same, they can switch randomly from being on the track team to being on the swim team to being cheerleaders. People appear and disappear without warning, many never to be seen again, and no one ever mentions or remembers them. Entire relationships between main characters vanish without further reference as if they have never been. At one point, the entire school moves from "Indiana" to "California". Two main characters vanish during the final season to be replaced by another (who then vanishes without further mention, never to appear in the sequel series), and then they mysteriously return, all without comment from anyone.

TL,DR: Aliens.
