Museum in London aims to decrease shame and stigma around genitals Inspired by the phallological museum in Iceland, the forthcoming Vagina Museum in London aims to "'erase the stigma around the body and gynaecological anatomy'" for everyone, regardless of their race, sex or gender."

On one hand, this is a really cool thing to do. On the other, it's sort of sad it's necessary. Good on them for doing it. I hope it works out the way they want.

I'm digging that crocheted clitoral structure. Is there a gift shop?

The museum's outreach programme will encourage healthy and inclusive sex and relationships education, and will work with doctors and medical professionals to offer services and support to the trans and intersex - people who do not fit the biological definition of male or female - communities.

and

Ms Schechter added that the museum, which will not charge for admission, will be inclusive of all genders because "not everyone who has a vagina is a woman, and not every woman has a vagina".

that is soooooo fucking rad.

IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!

Or in the topiary garden out front (no pictures, just passing reference to the "erotic" vulva topiary from What We Do in the Shadows from T.V./AV Club)

Agreed in part. It's sad that one of the missions of the museum has to be to erase the stigma around the body and gynaecological anatomy, but I'm happy that it's not their only goal. Also, the museum will feature art exhibitions, plays, workshops and comedy nights all centred around vaginas. A celebration of information!

YALL THE GIFT SHOP HAS OHNUTS

That’s even MORE RAD.

My doctor gave me an Ohnut a couple of months ago (I have vagina problems y’all...) any way that’s pretty fucking awesome.

I’m curious how the word vagina appearing on a tote bag comes across in public in the UK.

I saw the Vagina Monologues in London in 2002 and it was super enjoyable as a young queer feminist (valid critiques of the Vagina Monologues aside). Hope to get to this museum the next time I'm in London!

Men are allowed in, but most can't find the doorbell.

I bought a bunch of these awesome 'phoenix clit' stickers from (ig) @culkeen - a paste-up/street artist. They are mysteriously appearing about town.

I knew vaginas before they were famous.

Maybe it's just me, but why does this story always have to include the already well-known story about the penis museum in Iceland. "It's in Iceland, you know." Can't there just be a vagina museum for its own sake? For example, this CBC interview with the vagina museum's Florence Schechter was good all on its own without the subsequent penis museum interview "Did you know it was in Iceland? No, is it really?" Which was also good, but what the hell.
