Holycola: yes we are. Our musical culture is getting worse and worse, with all these dance/r'n'b acts copied on the latest americain/english trademarks. Yuk.

> What were all the British searching "big brother" for?
They lock 20 people in a house with two-way mirrors and record their every move. Record them taking a shower, in the toilet, having spas, and sleeping. Each week the house-mates vote on who they don't like among them (the girl who left the milk out over night, for example) and the 3 most disliked are put up for public eviction on a 0900 number. The housemates have no TV, no interw3b, no radio, and no newspapers. After a month they're bored out of their mind. They run around and make faces at the few cameras that they can see. They crave feedback. They have fights out of boredom. Occasionally the show's management prod the dozy tenants by reducing their weekly food budget, or by making them put on a talent show where a big bloke lip-syncs to Kylie. It's interesting and irritating because of the intimate conversions.

(though every country has it's own tweaks - the brit one had a wall down the middle to seperate the rich and the poor, apparently)

I must say that the measly 1% of Linux users is rather disheartening. I guess it's good to get a full percentage point, but are there really so few Linux users?

holloway - we have a version here as well (the second series has just finished).

Not only do they take away TV etc, but tobacco is also banned, which makes the first week or so interesting. In the local version, they are given challenges to earn their weekly food budget.

The first series was mildly interesting for novelty value if nothing else, but the second series didn't rate a look from me.

Only some countres appear, and Australia doesn't seem worth including. In fact, we don't even get a local google engine; google.com.au is owned by "Google Web Hosting", which really isn't very useful...

Lionfire, I noticed that too and wondered why someone went to the trouble of satisfying the requirements of a .au domain name to "reserve" google.com.au. I can only guess that they are waiting for Google to offer them squillions to relinquish the name. Fat chance.
